Robert Irwin Thornton, 83, of Thornton, Colorado, passed away on May 5, 2015.

Robert was born in August of 1931 to Irwin and Nelma (Lantz) in Brighton, Colorado. The third of four children, Robert grew up in the Brighton/Ft. Lupton area and graduated from Ft. Lupton High School in 1949.

In June of 1952, he married Susan Trembath and together they raised four children. Robert farmed and drove a feed truck prior to working for Hertz-Penske as a mechanic.

In his younger years, Robert played semi-professional baseball playing with the Fort Lupton Blue Jays. Robert was an avid Boston Red Socks fan, he enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting and was a member of the Northglenn Moose Lodge 2166, which he helped to construct.

Robert is survived by his wife, Susan, Children; Terry Thornton, Theresa (Jimmy) Quick, Tracy (Ruth) Thornton and daughter-in-law Babette Thornton, nine grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren, Sisters Katherine Siefler and Pat Lutz and sister-in-law Janette Thornton. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill and son Timothy.
