On October 11, 2006, Robert Ira Burgess passed on. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Charlene M. Burgess. He is survived by his sons, Larry and Dan Burgess, and one grandchild. Robert was born in Oak Park, Illinois. He lived in Glen Burnie Park, Maryland for 50 years. Robert joined the Illinois National Guard in 1939, which he was a member of until 1942.

He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He stayed in the U.S. Army until 1962, when he retired as Major Robert Ira Burgess. After his retirement from the Army, he worked as a Technical Writer and Director until 1990. He then worked in Dental Equipment Repair. Robert was a member of the Retired Officers Association. He was president of the Glen Burnie Park PTA and was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League. Robert enjoyed many hobbies, including playing the guitar, square dancing, amateur radio and ham radio. He was an authority on swing and early american jazz music. Robert greatly enjoyed life. He will be missed by many.
