Robert I. Knapp Sr, 73, of Sawyer, Michigan died Saturday, November 8, 2014 at I.U. Health LaPorte Hospital.
Robert was born July 3, 1941 to Irvan and Helen (Klinke) Knapp at his family’s farm in Sawyer. Bob would make his home on the family farm his entire life. He married Yvonne “Sue” Lausch on July 25, 1959. Bob worked for the Berrien County Road Commission for 34 years, serving as a foreman before his retirement. He enjoyed eating sweets, farming, and spending time with his family and friends. Bob could often be found sitting with the other farmers at one of the local eateries discussing the news of the day.
He was a supporter of the Berrien County Youth Fair and would go every day during Fair Week to watch the Tractor Pull with his family, and sit with his grandson, Jake, watching the girls on their horses. He looked forward to his annual trips up north, hunting with the guys in the fall; fishing and 4 wheeling in the summer with the whole family.
His trips up north followed the same routine, breakfast at Country Critters and dinner at the Oasis. Bob was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Weechik Post 518, New Troy and Trinity Lutheran Church of Glendora.Survivors include his children, Robert Knapp Jr and Pamela Knapp both of Sawyer; grandchildren, Nikki, Samantha, Melanie and Jake; great grandchildren, Cameron, Colton, Peyton and Blake; and his brother Chuck (Phyllis) Knapp of Huntington, WV.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sue in 2005 and by his brother Bill.
