Robert Hillburg, age 87, of Algona, died on Thursday July 26, 2012 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Robert was born on March 12, 1925 in Racine, WI to Elmer and Margaret (Frick) Hillburg. He graduated from William Horlick High School in Racine, WI in 1943. After graduation, Robert served in the United States Marine Corps, stationed in the Pacific during WWII. He then graduated from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN. On August 30, 1950, Robert was united in marriage to Charlotte Leto in Racine, WI. He worked at Snap-On Tools for 34 years. During these years, they lived in Kenosha, WI, Newport, PA and Algona, IA. They had 2 children, Cheryl and Daryl. Robert was a member of Kiwanis. He enjoyed coin collecting, playing cards, gardening, spending time with his family and traveling. They wintered in Tucson, AZ. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Char of Algona. Also surviving are his daughter, Cheryl Avery of Tucson, AZ and his son, Daryl Hillburg and his wife Mary of Algona; 7 grandchildren, Joe Hauptmann of Algona, Wendy (Mark) Shade of Kettering, OH, Marcy (Marty) Coleman of Nora Springs, Jeremiah Harris of Golden Valley, MN, Connie (Heath) Richter of Lake Park, Naomi Harris of Mankato, MN and Adam Hillburg of Ames; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Kenneth; a sister, Betty; and his grandson, T.J. Hillburg.
