Robert H. Caldwell, Jr., a member of a prominent family in East Tennessee long known for its love for people and philanthropy, died unexpectedly after suffering a heart attack on Saturday, Dec. 25. He was 61. Bobby, a native of Lookout Mountain, was a member of the Lookout Mtn. All-Star baseball team that played in the 1960 World Series and was educated at The McCallie School, The Hill School in Pottstown, Pa., and graduated with a degree in history from Princeton University. As a member of a fun-loving family that includes siblings and many cousins, Bobby’s zest and his great love for his family was reflected in his compassion for everyone he met. He loved jokes and laughter and cherished many rich and deep friendships that reached from coast to coast. He was active in community and civic endeavors and, at the time of death, was serving as the Chairman of the Hospice Foundation of Chattanooga. He was an ardent outdoorsman, whether fishing or hunting with his many friends or playing golf with his fun-loving buddies. He admired the grace and beauty of fine art, was a vociferous reader, and had great love for animals, nature and his beautiful was an investment advisor for most of his adult life, and had served on many boards in an effort to make our city a better place to live. He was a member of the Mountain City Club, the Fairyland Club and several other organizations. He was a Trustee of The McCallie School, the Good Shepherd School, and Vice Chairman of St. Nicholas School, where he was recently honored with the Stanyarne Burrows Award.
