Robert H. Folck, 91, of St. Joseph, Michigan, and formerly of Three Oaks, died Monday, August 23, 2010, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Robert was born August 15, 1919, in Hood River, Oregon to Adolph and Eva (Hillstrom) Folck.
He served his country in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was sent to Hawaii after Pearl Harbor and participated in many campaigns, including New Guinea, Morotai, Luzon, and Leyte Gulf, and entered Japan at Yokohama.
He was awarded the bronze star for his service in Luzon. Robert was in the area when the Japanese surrendered on D-Day. He married Anne D. Lange on February 12, 1944, in Paris, Tennessee. They moved to LaPorte, Indiana after living in LaCrosse, Wisconsin for 24 years.
Robert was employed as an industrial engineer senior analyst for Allis Chalmers. In 1979, Robert and Anne made their home in Three Oaks. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2004, and a few months later, on July 22, 2004, Anne preceded Robert in death.
Robert was an avid gardener, tending his garden, his fruit trees, and his grapes. He also processed his produce, his signature creations were his tomato sauces and sauerkraut. Robert enjoyed woodworking and keeping up with current events, reading several newspapers daily.
He was a member of the VFW Lodge # 9423, Rolling Prairie, Indiana and the Randall Couchman American Legion Post 204 of Three Oaks.Survivors include his sons, Robert J. (Carol) Folck of Kalamazoo and Randy (Renee) Folck of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Christine Folck; Matthew Folck; Sarah (Michael) Kamphuis and daughter Sadie; Michael (Sara) Folck and daughter Madalyn; Brandon (Yan) Folck and children Srey and Jonden; and Rae Folck.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
