Dr. Robert Gene Kern DMV, 88, of Palm Harbor, FL formerly of O’Fallon, IL, born August 14, 1928 in San Diego, CA, passed away on August 8, 2017 in Tarpon Springs, FL. Robert was born to Gene and Oleta Kern. In June 1948, Robert married Doris Catherine Hamman. In November 1955 they had a daughter, Kimberlee Kay (Kern) Bauman, and in January 1958 were blessed with the birth of their son, Robert Jeffery Kern.
Robert graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and practiced in O’Fallon, Illinois for many years. He loved animals, especially horses. He served many roles throughout his life including serving in the Army Air Corp, a police commissioner for the O’Fallon Police Department, head of the St. Clair County Animal Control, and track veterinarian at Fairmount and Cahokia Downs race tracks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Oleta Kern, nee Brown; wife, Doris Kern, nee Hamann; and son, Robert Jeffery Kern. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberlee Bauman of St. Bolivar, MO and granddaughter, Cherrilea Bauman.
