Robert Eugene Lockwood, 84, Anderson, died February 27, 2006 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson Indiana after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born June 1, 1921 in Noblesville, Indiana, grew up in Pendleton and was an Anderson resident since moving here after his sophomore year at Pendleton High School. He retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in 1980 after 41 years where he was a supervisor in Plant 4 for many years. He also helped to open Delco Remy Plants in Meridian and Laurel, Mississippi. He was a 1939 graduate of Anderson High School and a 1943 graduate of GMI. He served his country proudly in the US Navy during WWII on the LSM 312 in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Whetstone United Church of Christ for many years and at one time served as chairman of the board, chairman of the trustees and a trustee. He was a member of the American Legion #127, the Benevolent Order of the Elks Lodge #209 and LSM. He was an avid golfer, belonging to Idlewood, Killbuck and Meadowbrook golf courses following his favorite golf pro, Butch Penry. He was also an avid reader, Nascar and Pacers fan and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife whom he married on May 20, 1944 at Whetstone United Church of Christ, Mary Margaret Bird Lockwood; three children, Pamela Kay & husband Thomas Kistler of Muncie, Susan Lockwood of Anderson and Timothy Joseph & wife Rosanna Marie Lockwood of Conroe, Texas; a brother, Donald Lee & wife Murlene Lockwood of Seville, Florida; a nephew, Michael Lockwood and his son, Andrew of Norcross, Georgia; nieces, Michelle & husband Nicholas Perling and their daughter Cheyenne of Orlando, Florida, Vicki & husband Donald Watkins, Kathy Free, and Candy & husband Tom Butler; aunt, Peggy Stottlemyer of Sarasota, Florida; uncle, Robert Johnson of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Sarah Marie Kistler of Anderson, Emily Suzanne Kistler of Terre Haute, Graham Stewart Lockwood Dallas, Texas, Oliver Elliott Lockwood of Houston, Texas and Spencer Alexander Lockwood of Austin, Texas; several cousins whom he loved very much; and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester & Lillian Johnson Lockwood and a brother, Joseph Lockwood.
