Robert Leroy Ellis, 83, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2021. Robert was born August 25, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Harold and Ora Ellis. He had one brother, Harold Jr., and one sister, Joan. Robert married the love of his life, Carolyn, on November 13, 1956.
He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing. Robert was also an accomplished softball player and was inducted into the Des Moines Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Robert worked for the city of Des Moines’ traffic department for 25 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his brother, Harold Jr; his parents Harold and Ora; and son-in-law Timothy Kirkpatrick.
Those left to cherish Robert’s memory include his four children, Rhonda Kirkpatrick, Jeff (Diane) Ellis, Brad Ellis (Dianne Hendee), and Shawna Ellis; as well as 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
