Robert Edward Pettit, Jr., 69, of 958 Colonial Drive, Collinsville, VA died Monday, February 22, 2010 at his home. He was born on November 7, 1940 in Pearisburg, VA to the late Robert Edward Pettit, Sr. and Frances Spencer Pettit. Mr. Pettit was a member of the Collinsville Baptist Church where he served as Choir Director and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He received his B. S. Distributive Education in 1963 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA and his M. Ed. Vocational Education – School Administration in 1969 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA. Mr. Pettit was an educator 40 years for the Henry County Public School System. He was a past member of VEA, NEA, HCEA, VVA, AVA, DECA, VAESP and present member of VAEA. Also, he was past member of the Jaycees, Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club and enjoyed hunting and landscaping. Surviving are his wife, Frances Pettit of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Lt. Colonel Robert Pettit, III and Stephanie Pettit of Harrisonburg, VA and Lee Webster Pettit and Katina Pettit of Bassett, VA; sister and brother-in-law, Alma Jane Skidmore and Thomas Skidmore of Richmond, VA and three grandchildren, Nathan Robert Pettit, Courtney Lauren Pettit and Kaylee Grace Pettit.
