Robert Edward Gilbert “Gilby”, 82 of Bridgeport, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at his residence. He was born April 6, 1937 in Elkins, WV; the son of the late James Cosby Gilbert and Christine Weiner.
Robert severed in the United States Army from April 15, 1955 to April 1, 1958.
Robert is survived by his wife of 18 years, Debra Gilbert; two children, Chrysie Petitto and husband Phillip of California and Jennifer Watson and Husband Jason of Nevada; three grandchildren, Chrystina Elizabeth Pettito of California, Jasmyn and Julian Watson of Nevada; mother and father in-law, Ashby and Deloris Titus; brother and sister in law, Butch Titus and wife Kathie of Salem, Cathy McKay and husband Steve, David Titus and wife Diane, Mark Titus and Brian Titus and wife Pam, all of Jane Lew.
Robert was a member of the Clarksburg VFW and American Legion. He also served on the Harrison County Honor Guard for several years.
Robert loved to go fishing, especially on the Tygart Lake. He was known for his jokes and he always made people laugh. He was loved by many.
Per Robert’s request, his body was donated to the WVU Human Gift Registry.
