Robert E. Wermersen, 84 of Curlew died Monday June 1, 2009 at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Robert Wermersen, the son of William and Ethel (Hiller) Wermersen was born March 10, 1925 in Algona, Iowa. He was raised in Corwith where he attended country school until the 8th grade and finished his schooling in Algona. In 1945 Robert entered the US Army, serving until 1947. He was united in Marriage with Ruth A. Wood October 28, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. Other than living in Rodman for a short while, the couple spent their married lives in Curlew. While in Curlew, Robert operated a Hog Buying Station, and was employed by Besch Farms, the Curlew Elevator and Palo Alto County in the Roads Department. Survivors include his children: Sheila (Gary) Anderson of Mallard, IA, Vickie (Robert) Schneider of Mallard, IA, Deborah Alderson of Emmetsburg,IA, Roberta (Paul) Colsrud of Mallard,IA, and Rick Wermersen of Mallard,IA, a sister Betty Johnson of Curlew, IA, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchiildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Teena, 2 grandchildren Kenzie and Robert and a son in law William Alderson. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bird watching and jig saw puzzles.
