Robert Edward Weitz Jr., 72, of Carmel and formerly of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at his home. Robert was born on August 15, 1948 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to the late Robert E. and Dorothy (Walker) Weitz.
He is survived by his three siblings: Mary Beth (James) Ash of Bonita Springs, Florida; Thomas (Kathy) Weitz of Cleveland, Ohio; and David (Judy) Weitz of Elkhart. Robert will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephew: Amy (Jason) Grover, Barbara (Brian) Thompson, Matthew Weitz; as well as 7 great nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his brother, James.
Robert graduated from Elkhart High School with the class of 1966. He went on to graduate from Indiana University Bloomington with a degree in Accounting and Business. Robert received an honorable discharge in 1976 from the Army National Guard, where he served with the 538th Transportation Battalion. Robert worked for Clark Equipment Company in South Bend for many years as a CPA. After he retired, he really enjoyed working at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Customer Service, where he could interact and talk with the customers. Robert’s true passion and hobby was collecting sports cards, coins, and programs from various sporting events.
He also enjoyed going to Sports card Shows where he traded and sold cards for many years. Robert was very knowledgeable of athletes and their statistics across various sports. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
