Passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016. He was born on April 28, 1916 in Kalamazoo, the son of John and Martha (Wait) Stout. He graduated from State High School in Kalamazoo, received a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan, a master’s degree from The University of Michigan and a Specialist’s degree from Michigan State University. He was a teacher and band director at Bangor High School, was a teacher and director of guidance at Lakeview (Battle Creek) High school and later joined the Michigan Department of Education as a guidance consultant to Michigan schools and community colleges.
Following his years in Battle Creek and Lansing, he and his wife, Beatrice retired to Manistee, Michigan and then lived in Kalamazoo for the past 27 years most recently residing at Friendship Village. He was a musician and played oboe and English horn in the Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Fort Wayne symphony orchestras for a total of about 20 years. He married Beatrice Crawford on July 31, 1941 who preceded him in death on November 28, 2015 after 74 years of marriage. He is survived by his son, Thomas Stout, two grandsons, Michael (Kristin) Stout and Stephen (Caroline) Stout and four great-grandchildren, David, Daniel, Margaux and Remi Stout.
