Bob was born in Boise on August 21, 1931 to Ivan James “Jim” and Addie Amanda (Kent) Smith. He was the only boy in his family, the second of five kids.
Bob attended Boise High School and joined the Air National Guard in 1949. He attended Boise Junior College for automotive mechanics. Cars were always one of Bob’s passions. His family will always remember Bob taking them to the classic car shows and how he could name all of the old cars in every movie.
In 1956, Bob married his loving wife Kathleen “Kathy” (Clayton) Smith. They lived in California for a few years and then returned to Boise. Bob was a bus driver for 25 years, working with the school district, Boise-Winnemucca and Trailways. Bob could tell stories of all the people he met during his time driving bus, including Clint Walker.
Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed time spent with friends and family. He was an avid bowler and also enjoyed poker nights and trips to Jackpot.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen (Clayton) Smith; his children: Rick Smith and Robin (Smith) Lasnick; and sister Shirley (Smith) Molner and Carol Smith. Bob was a wonderful grandfather to three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jim and Addie Smith and his sisters: Lilian (Smith) Shelton and Dorothy (Smith) Casas.
Bob was ever the jokester and was truly the greatest. He will be missed by all of the friends and family he leaves behind, but we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace.
