Obituary

Robert E. Muffly, 85, of Continental Blvd., Turbotville, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 at his home.

Born August 28, 1922 in Anthony Twp., Montour County, he was the son of the late George T. and Tillie A. (Laidacker) Muffly. On August 27, 1955 he married the former Mary Jane Hammer and they celebrated 37 years of marriage until her death March 16, 1993.

He retired from Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation, wire rope division, Muncy.

Bob was a veteran of WWII, having served with the Navy in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Wallace W. Fetzer Post 71 American Legion, Milton, and a life-member of the Muffly Huff Post 8206, VFW, Turbotville and the Sampson WWII Navy Veterans. He was a member of the Washington Fire Company, 50-year member of Milton Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 171, Milton; and a member of North Montour Sportsmen’s Association.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Strawberry Ridge.

Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing and raised English Setters. He loved working in his year, gardening and tending his fruit trees. He was an avid Mets and Phillies Baseball fan.

Surviving are three nieces and a nephew: Elaine Muffly, Painted Post, NY; Judy Bower, Danville; Lisa Alley, Big Flats, NY; and William Muffly, Corning, NY; and several great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his wife were a sister, Mildred Rowe and three brothers: Dorrance, William and George W. Muffly.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway Street, Turbotville with Pastor Shawn McNett officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Old Section of Turbotville Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 PM Tuesday. The family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Muffly Huff Post 8206, VFW, PO Box 31, Turbotville, PA 17772.
