Robert E. Meyers, 91, passed to his rest Thursday, April 12, 2018, at his home, surrounded by love and family.

A native of Elkhart, he was born on May 31, 1926, to the late Frederick and Dorothy Meyers.

He graduated from Elkhart High School, and served in the U.S. Army, near the end of WWII from 1944 to 1945 in the Germany Campaign with the 379th.

Infantry Regiment of the 95th. Infantry Division.

On March 4, 1946, he married the former Marilyn J. Nutting; they celebrated 60 years of marriage before she passed on Aug. 20, 2006.

Surviving is five children, Diana (Jerry) Malcolm, Carol (Greg) Smith, Bobbie (Jerry) DeBoer, Mary Ann (Jeff) Blacketter and Charles R. Meyers; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren survive to cherish his memory. A brother Richard and sister Dorothy Shaw, preceded him in death.

Robert worked as a tow motor operator at Federal paperboard, retiring in the early 1970s.

He then worked at Wilt’s Food Centers and Marks City Market.

He was a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge.

He was also an avid bowler and Cubs fan, and enjoyed building things and working with wood.
