Robert E. “Bob” Johnson, age 91, longtime resident of Palos Park, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 10, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband of Elizabeth M. �Betty�, nee Bittner, for 66 years. Loving father of Barbara Diethert, Christie (James) Gyann, and Lauren (John) Gately, and the late baby Robert, Grandfather of Jamie Christine and Carolyn Ann Gyann, Samantha Ann and Allison Elizabeth Gately, and the late Eric Robert Diethert, Great Grandfather of Kayla Eileen; Devoted son of the late Ernest and Anna Marie, nee Dahlgren, Brother of the late Mildred C. Johnson; Loving uncle to his nieces, nephews, And a loyal friend to all his relatives and the people he knew throughout his life.
Bob was an active member on the Morgan Park H.S. and University of Chicago football teams, and upon graduating worked for the University of Chicago; while there he was asked to be a member of the Manhattan Project. His work led him to a lifetime career at Argonne National Laboratory and he retired as their Budget Director after 42 years of service. Bob was a proud member of the U.S. Navy, but was given an honorable discharge during training at Notre Dame University.
