Robert (Bob) D. Barton died on July 14, 2018 in his home after a short illness with a very aggressive leukemia diagnosis.  He is survived by his wife Beverly and they would have celebrate 50 years of marriage on December 26, 2018.  He is survived by his youngest sister Debbie Hayes (Miles) of Hiram, GA, nieces Kristina Spurlock (Jason) of Marietta, GA and Diana (Ross) Midgley of Port St. Lucie, FL, nephews Tony Hayes and Robert Hayes of Hiram, GA along with other nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and a niece and nephew.

Robert was born in Pratt, KS on the 4th of July, 1937. Since his birthday was very special, he enjoyed watching fireworks on the 4th.  He wore an American flag on all his shirts.  Being raised in the farmland of Kansas gave Robert a “green thumb” and he had a garden in the backyard almost every year.  Each summer before he retired he would load pumpkins, squash and cucumbers in the back of his van, take them to work and invite his coworkers to come to the van during lunch to choose some produce.  Neighbors also shared in his bounty.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy for 5 years and spent a majority of that time in the Pacific.  Retirement enabled him and his wife to take nine cruises.  Although each cruise was enjoyable, he especially looked forward to going through the Panama Canal a few years ago, something he had wanted to do since he journeyed though the Canal while putting a ship into commission while in the Navy.

Robert loved people. He became a “grandfriend” to many kids.  About 20 years ago Robert and his wife became “adopted grandparents” to two special youngsters.
