Longtime Alameda resident Robert Louis Doumitt, 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Robert was born in Portland, OR on May 21, 1928 to Najib and Adell Doumitt. He has been a proud resident of Alameda for 82 years.
A graduate of Alameda High School, he joined the Army Reserve and began studies at SF City College while working for his father in his orthopedic shoe store in the City. In the mid -1960s, Bob re-imaged his father’s business into what would become one of San Francisco’s premier women’s shoe boutiques offering the latest in imported fashions from around the globe.
Bob was also an avid golfer and tennis player and could frequently be found on the local links or the courts at the Harbor Bay Club. Later in life he could be seen tooling around the island he so loved on his 3 wheel bike, always ready to stop in conversation with an old friend or even a perfect stranger. He was most often seen in the company of his faithful Yorkshire Terrier, Mac.
His many friends will remember”Dooms” for his warm, caring personality and jovial laughter. His family will remember a larger-than-life father and grandfather who never missed an opportunity to remind them how much he loved them and how blessed he was.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years Shirley, son Robert Jr, daughter-in-law Annissa, grandchildren Hannah, Isabella and Emery, daughter Carrie Gonsalves, son-in law Bill, grandchildren Allie and Bradley, son Tony, daughter-in-law Angie, grandchildren Elise, Christian and Carly, siblings Gerry Page and Mary Reiser, and his beloved Yorkie Mac.
