Robert Donald “Don” Phillips left this life unexpectedly and peacefully in the early morning hours of January 5, 2011 at his home. Don was born December 19, 1940 in Fulton County, Georgia. Preceding him in death was his father, Bob Dix Phillips. His mother, Dorothy Ruth Camp Phillips survives him. Sensing early in life his dedication to his country, he enlisted in the Navy and was discharged in 1962. He succumbed to the charms of the love of his life and married Liz Irvin and embarked on an almost 49 year love story. Don possessed a strong work ethic and operated his own auto body shop for some 20 years. Being, by nature, a tinkerer fascinated by cars, his avocation and vocation often crossed paths. His desire was to work hard, so, that in time, he and Liz would have their retirement years to enjoy doing as they wished. Their marriage produced two sons who benefited from Don’s devotion to his core values of God, family and home. After moving to Newnan 22 years ago, Don became enmeshed in the life and activities of Macedonia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Don is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Liz” Irvin Phillips; his sons, Robert D. “Robby” Phillips, Jr. and his wife Donna, and Brian Lee Phillips and his wife Jill. He was the proudest grandfather ever to Brady, Spenser, Levi and Sutton Phillips. Also surviving Don are his brothers Larry Phillips, Gary Phillips and Kenny Phillips.
