Robert D. Olsen, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 29, 2022.
He was proudly born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to Norwegian immigrants Otto and Ingrid Olsen. He began working at a neighborhood pharmacy at the age of 11 which inspired him to earn his pharmacy degree (graduate of St. John’s University in 1954), making him the first in his family to earn a college degree. His constant grit and determination remained throughout the rest of his life and career as a pharmacist, research scientist, and sales executive.

Robert married the love of his life, Irene DiClementi, in June of 1956. They remained steadfast in their marriage for over 66 years; it was not often in his later years to find one without the other. Robert and Irene raised their two sons, Robert and Peter, primarily in Staten Island, and later moved to Middletown, NJ where Robert happily lived for the remainder of his life.

Above all else, Robert valued his time with his family. He often recounted many cherished moments throughout his years such as the blistering winter spent in Milwaukee, moving in to their first family home built in Old Saybrook, CT, and taking trips throughout Europe. Later in life, time spent relaxing on the beach in the Outer Banks and having sleepovers with his grandchildren (or as he called them, “my darlings”), complete with enormous ice cream sundaes, were some of his favorite memories.

Robert is predeceased by his brother Otto. He is fondly remembered by his wife Irene, sons Robert (wife Susan) and Peter (wife Kim), grandchildren Kaitlin, Emily, Hannah, Robert, and Isabelle, many nieces, nephews, and close friends, especially those from his parish, St. Catherine’s in Holmdel.
Our family is heartbroken, but we are eternally thankful for the time we had with our beloved “Boobie” and know he is with God in heaven.
