Robert Carlyle Powell, 87, of Severn, Maryland, passed away on January 30, 2021. Robert was born on February 1, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Catherine and Carlyle Powell. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. Robert earned his Master’s degree in Engineering from Indiana University. He worked for and retired from The Federal Aviation Administration and NAVCOM Industries as an electrical engineer. After retiring twice, he put to work his love for fixing things (he could fix anything) when he took on a facilities role for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from which he also retired. While Robert enjoyed home and auto repair, he found his greatest satisfaction in teaching these skills to others. He also enjoyed genealogy, telling a good story (he had many!), and serving in the Temple.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Robertta L. Powell; his loving children, Dawn Pierce, Michelle Smith, Felicia Agnew, Joyce Rigsby, Patrick Rigsby, Kathleen Frank, and Michael Rigsby; his beloved grandchildren, Kathy, Jennifer, Allison, Nicholas, Brittany, Alex, Jenny, Rebecca, Samuel, Stephen, and Rachel; and his ten cherished great-grandchildren. Robert is also survived by many extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his brother Gregory Powell, his grandson Robert Lagassie, and his great-grandson Drew Ditton.
