Robert Bolbirer was born on July 21st, 1939 to Zinaida and Alexander Bolbirer.
Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years Vera Bolbirer, his two children, Alex Bolbirer and Lilia Bolbirer Gelb, and his 5 grandchildren, Michael Bolbirer, Steven Bolbirer, Emma Gelb, Ethan Gelb and Angelina Bolbirer.
Robert grew up in Ukraine with his family for the first 40 years of his life. He had a deep appreciation for music and was a wonderful musician. In 1979 he moved with his wife and children to America, where he joined his mother Zhinaida, and sister Zhanna Parnas and her family in Detroit, MI. In 1980 he and his family moved to Brooklyn, NY, where he became a taxicab driver. In 1985 he was a victim of crime and was shot on the streets of Coney Island and subsequently paralyzed from the neck down. He was told he would never walk again, but he defied the odds and tremendously willed himself to walk again after years of therapy. In 1994 he and his wife moved to Florida where he lived for the remainder of his life. He devoted the rest of his life and all of his love and energy to his family.
Robert was known to be a man you could always count on. His wisdom was endless. He was strong, smart, and high spirited. He valued family above all. He raised and nurtured 5 grandchildren, who all hold him so dearly in their hearts. He loved life and lived life to the fullest. He always lit up the room with his extraordinary personality. His laughter was infectious. Throughout the many challenges he faced through his life, he never gave up. His strength guided and protected us. He will be remembered with deep respect, love, honor and true admiration by his family, friends and peers.
The Bolbirer and Gelb family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Menorah House for taking such good care of Robert in his last months. We would also like to thank Trustbridge Hospice and the countless nurses, doctors, aids, and family members who cared for him.
