Robert L. Sharkey, affectionately known as Bobby, was born on August 9, 1941 to Grady and Luella Sharkey in Drew, Mississippi. He was one of triplets, Betty Jo and Billy Jo preceded him in death, shortly after their birth. He later moved to Chicago with his family in 1943.
Robert attended Englewood High School in Chicago, IL where he was active in sports.
He was a hard working, dedicated and loyal employee. He was a long-time employee of Fel-Pro, Inc. and was employed at Witco Chemical for 30 years where he served in several capacities and was foreman and union steward for the entire plant until 1997.
Robert was a people person and he never met a stranger. Political activism and helping others was a passion of his and he served as a precinct captain in the North Lawndale community. He believed in education and seeking further knowledge. Robert was spiritual and studied various spiritual practices and even taught himself to speak fluent Hebrew when he was a practicing Muslim.
Robert is remembered for telling jokes and funny stories as he enjoyed making others laugh. He was known for his strong will and independence, which was evidenced even through the end of his life. He departed this life for his heavenly home on November 29, 2014.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Grady and Luella Sharkey; six sisters, Ollie Mae Lee, Ola Smith, Minnie Sharkey, Willa V. Sharkey, Anna V. Sharkey and Alberta Sharkey; six brothers, John, Donnie Lee, Lee Curtis, Eugene, Grady and Eddie.
He leaves to cherish his memories, three daughters, Kimberly Morris of Romeoville, IL, Tanya Sharkey of Westmont, IL and Kimberly Smith of Hillside, IL; two sons, Marc Fambro of San Bernadino, CA and Steven Sharkey of Westmont, IL; four grandchildren, Cynthia Alexandria Sharkey Henderson, Marc Fambro, Jr., Steven Tyler Sharkey and Britney Taylor Sharkey; sister, Dorothy Sharkey; brother, Grady Sharkey, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
