Robert “Bobby” Louis Ammons, age 62, of Columbus, GA and formerly of Gwinnett County, GA passed away on April 17, 2021.

Bobby fought a valiant fight against Bile Duct Cancer. His faith never wavered in the 15 months since his diagnosis. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Ammons and Hope Ammons Carr, his stepfather Archie Carr, and his father-in-law, Fred Duren.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Wanda Duren Ammons; children: Nathanael Thompson Ammons (Lindsey) and Bethany Dawn Ammons; sisters: Ann Ammons Martin (Tom), and Susan Ammons Rosenkranz (John); uncle: Billy Hunter (Charlotte); mother-in-law: Margaret Duren; brother-in-law & sister-in-law: Jimmy & Kathy Duren; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Bobby was born on January 6, 1959, in Helena, Arkansas. He was a 1977 graduate of South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, GA, and a 1981 graduate of Belhaven College, Jackson, MS with a B.S. Degree in Accounting and Business Administration. The majority of his adult years were in the Gwinnett County, GA area. The last 6.5 years were lived in Columbus, GA.

Bobby was a Deacon at North Metro First Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, GA for many years. He was a member of the church orchestra and praise band as well as serving in the Preschool Department on Sunday mornings. In the years since moving to Columbus, GA, he was a member of the praise band at Morningside Baptist Church. Bobby was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and he loved sharing that gift with others through the years.

Bobby spent eleven years in higher education administration, including Belhaven College, Jackson, MS, and Missouri Baptist College, St. Louis, MO. Since 1993, Bobby was employed by Communicorp (a division of Aflac) as Information Services Director, Director of eCommerce, Senior Manager of Merchandise Operations, and most recently as Company Controller.
