Flemingsburg Mayor, Robert Frederick “Bobby” Money, 74, of Flemingsburg, Kentucky passed away Monday, November 28, 2022, at his home in Flemingsburg.
He was born in Maysville, Kentucky on April 18, 1948, a son of the late Raymond Howard Money and Jane Frederick Money Osborn.
Bobby was a United States Army veteran and a two-time graduate of Morehead State University earning a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with an emphasis on Management and an Associate Degree in Real Estate.
Bobby began his career at Production Credit Association (PCA) making Agricultural loans, he went on to work 29 years and retired from the Buffalo Trace Area Development District. He was very proud of helping many people secure a loan to purchase their first home. After retirement, he worked for Licking Valley driving patients to their doctor appointments. Bobby was proud of his accomplishments as Mayor and looked forward to serving four more years.
Bobby was always dedicated to his work and helping others. He helped start the Buffalo Trace Regional Housing Authority (BTRHA) and the Buffalo Trace Housing Corporation (BTHC). He currently serves on the Kentucky League of Cities Board of Directors, the Buffalo Trace Area Development District Board of Directors and the Executive Board, the Licking Valley Community Action Board of Directors and is the Assistant District Administrator for Kentucky District 6 Little League baseball and softball. He was the first Chairman of the Flemingsburg-Fleming County Recreation Park Board, served as Vice President of Finance for Comprehend, and was President of the Fleming County Little League numerous times over the years. He worked tirelessly for the county fire departments and was successful in securing funding to build the firehouses in Muses Mill, Mt. Carmel, and Tilton. In 1981, he was honored to be selected Citizen of the Year by the Fleming County Chamber of Commerce, and in 1984, he was selected the Flemingsburg Gazette’s Featured Father of the Year. He was completing his first term as Mayor of the City of Flemingsburg and had been reelected to a second term in the November general election.
Bobby was a proud family man. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, never missing an opportunity to support them. He was proud to have many friends. In addition to his grandchildren, he was called “Papaw Bobby” by many.
He loved his community big and enjoyed supporting any event that was going on. He loved Bluegrass music, dirt track racing, Fleming County sports, Fleming County Little League, and anything else that involved the youth. He was also an avid collector of sports memorabilia.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Bobby Ray Money and his wife Angela of Morehead, Kentucky, his daughter, Amy Money Saunders and her husband Timmy of Ewing, Kentucky, his four grandchildren, Brady Saunders and his wife Morgan, Peyton Money, Cole Saunders (Caroline), and Jase Money, his two brothers, Terry Money (Charlotte) of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Ray Money (A.J.) of Ewing, one niece, Melissa Money McFarland and her husband Jamie and one nephew, Sam Money and his wife Alison, along with two great nieces and a great nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Grover Money.
