It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Joseph Weiler, MD, on Saturday, November 26, 2022.

Bob is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law William Alonzo Weiler and Emma Weiler.

He leaves behind his wife of forty-six years, Pat; sons: Erik Moe of Chicago, Thomas Weiler, MD and his wife Shelley Walden of Albuquerque, Nicholas Weiler and his wife Christine Weiler of South Bend, Indiana; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and four beloved nephews and nieces

Bob was born on May 18, 1932, to William Joseph Weiler and Margaret Eggers Weiler in Menomonie, Wisconsin. In 1954, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame and in 1958 completed medical school at the University of Chicago. In 1962, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU-3) in Cairo, Egypt for three years. Soon after returning to the United States, Bob took a fellowship in hematology at the University of Southern California Medical Center where he later taught as an associate professor. In October 1971, Bob moved to Albuquerque and began working at Lovelace Health Clinic with Dr. Bruce Wimer, serving as department chair for a time. After retirement in 2002, Bob worked as a locum tenens physician in North Dakota, Washington State, and New Mexico. (He said he was a retirement failure.)  Although devoted to his work, Bob was a loving husband and father, bicyclist, world traveler, skier, runner, backpacker, pilot, sailplane enthusiast, lover of music, reader, and papa to three terriers.

God be with you, Bob.
