Bob, 61, passed April 24, at home. Robert W. “Bob” “Sappy” Barnes, 61, of Goshen, Indiana passed away on Thursday evening, April 24, 2014 at his home after a year and a half battle with cancer.

Bob was born in South Bend on May 13, 1952 to the late Charles and Helen Barnes. He married Donetta Curtis on November 8, 1999. She survives, as well as his sons, Joe Barnes of Minneapolis, Minn.,  Chris Barnes of Woodbury, Minn.,  4 grandsons,  a step-son Scott Curtis and step-daughter Dondi Porter , both of Elkhart, 5 step-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dave (Linda) Barnes of Sparta, NJ., Michael (Nancy) Barnes of Union, Mich. and a sister Sherrie (Roy) Inlow of South Holland, Ill.

Bob or Sappy as he was known, worked as a utility Arborist for ArborMetrics, a company contracted by NIPSCO to trim trees around electrical lines.  Sappy was a longtime member and past-Governor of the Goshen Moose Lodge#836. He enjoyed playing the Christmas Elf at the Christmas party and helped start the BINGO there and enjoyed being a “Bingo caller”. Bob was an avid bowler and had a 300 game to his credit.
