Robert “Bob” Gable Sr., 78 of Thornton community, passed away Monday, August 15, 2011, at Grafton City Hospital. He was born in Grafton, July 21, 1933, son of the late Alba and Hazel Pierce Gable. His wife Margaret Carder Gable preceded him in death, November 5, 2009. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by an infant brother, George Gable; two sisters, Mary Sue Clark and Kathleen “Kitty” Nicholls. Bob is survived by four daughters; Debbie Cochran of Thornton, Lea Larew and husband Bobby of Thornton, Teresa Gable and companion Dave Strader of Thornton, Julie Wheeler and husband Matt of Texas; one son, Robert G. Gable, Jr. and wife Michelle of GA; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Cook of CA; and one very special aunt, Freda Quinn of Falling Waters, WV; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob was a construction worker. He worked as a carpenter for Rockville Mining in Kingwood for many years and also Holleran Construction. He was an US Army Veteran, having served his country during the Korean conflict. He also dedicated his free time and a majority of his retirement to the Thornton Volunteer Fire Dept and the Thornton Community. He served as the Chief for more than 25 years. Upon his retirement as chief he remained in the department as the president of the board of directors. His devotion to his department and community was inspiring to all that knew him.
