Robert E. “Bob” Byrket, 90, of Wakarusa and formerly of Elkhart, passed away after a short illness Saturday, Sept. 27, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa.
He was born April 15, 1924, in Fort Wayne to the late Raymond E. and Stella (Loutzenhiser) Byrket.
On June 3, 1950, he married Carol (Dills) Byrket in Elkhart.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include two sons, Dennis Byrket of Elkhart and David (Laurie) Byrket of Wakarusa; one daughter, Debra Milner of Elkhart; one sister, Marilyn (Kenneth) Lorenz of Kentwood, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard, Darrel and Lawrence Byrket.
Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II from Feb. 27, 1943, until he was honorably discharged on Feb. 20, 1946. Bob was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
After leaving the Army, he went to work for the Selmer Co. and retired from there in 1996. He was a longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Bob enjoyed golfing, gardening and especially spending time with his family.
