Robert “Bob” Anthony Callahan, 77, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022. He was the son of the late Joseph James Callahan and Marie Rose Callahan, and brother to the late Joseph Charles Callahan. Born on September 10, 1945, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Bob spent most of his childhood in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield Prep in 1963.
Bob was also a proud alum of Yale University and Yale School of Medicine, earning a medical degree in 1971. Completing residencies at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (1971–-73) and Yale-New Haven Hospital (1973–-76), Bob was an orthopedic surgeon for over 40 years, mostly practicing in Tampa, Florida.
Bob was a student for life, learning new languages and reading about American history. He also enjoyed running in the Florida sun, dry humor, and his dogs—Gabby, Riley, Teddy, and JoJo. He was impervious to small-minded opinions and new technology. He kept his wit and stubbornness about him until the end.
He is survived by his wife, Jaime Callahan, and his children, Brian Callahan (Suzanne Callahan), Katherine Callahan, Kristan Callahan (Michael Kerman), Brendan Callahan, Matthew Callahan, and Faith Callahan. Bob also leaves behind three grandchildren, Andrew Callahan, Dylan Callahan, and Rose Kerman. In addition to his parents and brother, he was predeceased by wives Pamela Callahan and Maureen Callahan.
