Robert Russel Block, son of Benjamin Lewis and Dorothea Ida (Harms) Block, was born September 3, 1924 in rural Ottosen, Iowa. He was raised and educated there. Bob had a passion for farming, which he began at an early age. He farmed his entire life in the Ottosen area. On December 15, 1954 Bob was united in marriage with Ardyce Joan Drury at the Baptist Church in Spencer, Iowa. The couple raised one son, Troy. Bob was one of the earliest members of Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend, Iowa. He was a very devoted member of the congregation and held various offices throughout the years. Bob died September 5, 2010 at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa at the age of 86. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include Bob’s wife of 46 years, Joan Block of Ottosen, his son Troy Block of North Liberty, Iowa and sister Darlene Banwart of Sioux City, Iowa.
