On January 11, 2022, Robert Benson Taylor, Sr. passed with a full life of 95 years behind him.
Born the son of Millard and Eva Irene (nee Dietz) Taylor he would spend his youth in Baltimore City and finally settle in Glen Burnie.
As a young man, Robert was a member of the Boys’ Brigade and also the Minutemen of Annapolis. He worked as an apprentice carpenter to his father at the age of 15 and by age 17, enlisted in the United States Navy. He did his initial training at Sampson New York in 1943 and went on to be trained in gunnery at Norfolk , Virginia.
Following the war Robert returned to his former vocation and began to refine his craft as a carpenter. Throughout his carreer of many years, he worked on multiple high profile building projects, including, the Baltimore Police station and Post Office, Downtown, the Hilton Hotel, Harbor and Church Home Hospitals, The Fort McHenry Tunnel and the Jones Falls Expressway and the iconic Baltimore Aquarium.
In his leisure, he was a performer with the Maryland Theatre of Arts and acted in programs at nursing homes in the 1990’s. Robert loved animals and though he found a place of love for many, his special friend was his dog, “Jasper.”
Robert loved his children very much and spent many of his best years in the care and fellowship of his son Robert, Jr. He was especially proud to be “dad” to his daughter Tammy.
Surviving Robert are his afore mentioned children, his beloved Tammy Hill and spouse Ray and devoted son Robert B. Taylor Jr. and wife Katie. His loving grandchildren, Gracelynn and Justin Taylor will forever cherish his memory. He will be missed by his friend and wife Nancy Taylor. Robert also leaves to mourn the loss, his friends, Norman and Kathy Vogel and Jack “Rocky” Barton. He is now reunited with his dear “Jasper.”
