June 28, 1965 – August 10, 2016

Robert Bateman Birkett, Jr., age 51 of Boerne, TX passed away at his home on Aug. 10, 2016. He was born in Holden, MA on June 28, 1965, to parents Robert Birkett and Patricia Thomas. His mother preceded him in death. Rob is survived by Molly Birkett – his blessed wife of 21 years; his father Robert Birkett; step-mother Betsy Birkett, brother Barry Birkett; sister Beth Gosson; and step-sisters Amy Vercruysse and Laura Wells. Rob’s death has left a huge hole in the lives of everyone who knew him. He was kind, thoughtful, patient, and funny. He was often the life of the party and he always made everyone laugh. His humor and well timed jokes diffused others’ sadness and bad moods. No one in his presence could be in ill temper because he would have them laughing in no time. He loved to travel whether it be around the world or to nearby weekend destinations. He was a willing long distance hiker and biker and organized such ventures to Scotland, Holland, and Germany with like-minded family members. In later years he was an avid weekend avocationist with his wife Molly, marketing handmade crafts and other items to nearby cities and towns. Rob loved life and was appreciative of the blessings our Creator bestowed upon him. He was devoted to and protective of his family, and uncommonly selfless to both his countless friends and acquaintances. He never met a stranger and had excellent leadership and organizational talents, which he put to generous use through extensive volunteer work. St. Peter the Apostle’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus in particular benefitted from the combination of his skills and God-given talents, as some of his fund raising for those organizations were record breaking. Our countless happy memories of Rob, of his love of family and friends, his huge heart, sunny disposition and generous nature, as well as his humor, kindness and thoughtfulness, are what sustain us at this time of sadness and grief. We are comforted beyond measure by the kindness shown to us by the many friends he left behind, and by the sure and certain knowledge that his spirit now rests in the loving embrace of his creator and that we will see him again soon enough.
