Bob (Pops), was born in West Hartford, CT on December 18, 1931. On October 18, 2015, after a hard fought battle with cancer, he joined all those who have gone before him in the Heavens. He was 83 years old.
Bob was predeceased by his mother, Ruth E. Ashwell Day Headen, his father, Herbert L. Day, his step-father, Arnold Headen and sister, Shirley Reuss.
Bob married Helen Mary Shaver Tracey in New London, CT. They had twin sons, Robert E. and William A Day. This completed their blended family with Bob’s two daughters, Gail Butler (Willard) and Robin Hamilton and Helen’s three children, Peter F. Tracey III (Rebecca), Jay Tracey (Jennifer) and Mellony Tracey.
They are the proud grandparents of 9: Eric Butler (Sarah), Vanessa Butler, Corey Hamilton, Brittany Hamilton, Peter Tracey IV, Jennifer Tracey Tworzydlo, Tania Tracey Coomey (Kevin), Robert (Boe) Hartwell and Brett Hartwell.
Bob and Helen were the proud great-grandparents of: Karissa Holybee (Tom); Amber St. John; AJ and Ava Coomey; Autumn and Ailyah Tworzydlo; Lillyana Butler; Tiyana, Riley and Boe Hartwell; Camryn, Skylar and Amari Hartwell.
Bob has one niece, Deborah Reuss, a nephew, John Reuss (Kathy) and a great-niece, Chelsea Reuss and a great- nephew, Jesse John Reuss.
Bob was a graduate of the Admiral Billard Academy in New London, CT. He retired from the Navy FTC in 1969 after serving proudly in the Korean War as a submariner.
Bob owned and operated Robert’s Auto Body Shop in Taftville, CT. He attended classes at Ellis Technical School in Danielson, CT. where he obtained his certificate as an aircraft mechanic. That was only the first step in his new career. Bob obtained his private pilots license and went on to earn his corporate pilots license. Bob enjoyed being a corporate pilot in California and Florida. He also flew Air Ambulance while living here in Naples. In retirement, he built and flew model airplanes with his friends in Naples, Fl.
