Bob Wolffe, age 78, of Wye Mills, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2016, with his family by his side. After his long fight with cancer, Bob passed at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton.
Bob was born on March 15, 1938, a son of the late Samuel and Alice Kriegel Wolffe.
Bob was born and raised in Washington, DC, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1960, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He subsequently received his Masters and Doctorate Degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University.
Upon graduation from Lehigh, in 1965, Bob joined DuPont as a Senior Research Engineer in the Textile Fibers Department. His 23-year career with DuPont included initiating and managing the trade development during the world-wide introduction of Kevlar to the aircraft and aerospace industry. Bob left DuPont in 1988 and joined Lanxide Armor Products in Newark, DE, as President and CEO.
Bob and his wife Bev, of 55 years, split their time between their homes in Wilmington, DE and Wye Mills, MD. Moving to Wye Mills permanently in 1998, Bob was able to enjoy what he loved most, being with his family. Bob had a great passion for the outdoors, which he shared with his wife, three daughters and son-in-law’s, and six granddaughters. He especially loved being on the water, fishing, crabbing, sailing and gardening. Bob loved reading, politics, college sports, particularly University of Maryland basketball, and traveling. Bob took great pleasure in serving the communities that surrounded him, including the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Talbot Hospice, Habitat for Humanity, Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy, Talbot County Creekwatchers, River Road Swim Club, and Alapocas Neighborhood Association.
Family was always what Bob lived for. Bob is survived by his wife Beverly Halloran Wolffe, children Deborah and husband Charles Hutchinson of North East, MD, Lisa Wolffe of Newark, DE, and Barb and husband Greg Pollard of Coconut Grove, FL; grandchildren Holly and Ashley Hutchinson, Heather Wolffe and Megan Graham, Alison and Kelsey Pollard, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Edward and Franklin Wolffe.
