RJ “Jay” Garmon, 70, of Tipton, passed away on March 14, 2019 at St. Vincent’s in Indianapolis, following an extended illness. RJ was born on February 15, 1949, in Scottsville, KY to the late Melvin and Gracie (Driver) Garmon.
R.J. graduated from Tipton High School in 1967, and then went on to proudly serve in the United States Army. From 1968-1969 RJ was among the many brave soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War. When he returned to civilian life, he began working at Chrysler Transmission Plant, from which he retired in 2003 after 30 years of employment.
On April 26, 2003 RJ married Janie (Shupard) Garmon. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2016. No doubt they are enjoying a glorious reunion in Heaven.
RJ was a simple guy, who tried to enjoy life every day. He was a member of the American Legion, post 46. He loved to fish and be outdoors. Silver Lake was one of his favorite fishing spots.
Those left to carry on RJ’s legacy of love are his children, Michelle (Tim) Erny, Melvin (Angel) Garmon, Kyle (Jamie) Garmon and step-daughter, Dawn Dane; siblings, Kenny (Angie) Garmon, Joe (Diane) Garmon, Mary Lieber and Juanita (Jim) Zielinski; grandchildren, Richard Byrd II, Kegan Byrd, Isaac Garmon, Allie Camp, Quinten Camp, Camden Dane, Dalton Dane and Quenton Ballinger; six great grandchildren; and special family friend, Deb Hughes.
RJ was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Gracie (Driver) Garmon; wife, Janie Garmon; and great granddaughter, Faith Byrd.
