On Friday, June 18, 2021, Rita (Schielka) Girdzis of Milford, left this world peacefully after a short illness. She was the beloved wife for 62 years of the late John Girdzis; devoted mother of Paul (Adrienne), Tim (Lynne), Amy (Billy) and Tom (Susan); adored grandmother of Matt (Joline), Dan, Sam, Gretchen and Jonathan and great grandmother of Blake; cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews; and a dear Godmother. She is predeceased in death by her parents, Albina and Joseph Schielka, sisters Grace Grandel and Patricia Masino and brother John Schielka. A graduate of Indiana University, Rita began her career as a Medical Technologist at Waterbury Hospital, followed by other local hospitals, leading to many years at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Rita was a member of the Spade and Hoe Garden Club and volunteered with the Milford Red Cross and CT Hospice. She enjoyed bridge, skiing, bicycling and travel. She will be dearly missed by her cherished family and dear friends.
