Rita Pokornowski nee Jakalski, age 90, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Orland Park, passed peacefully at home on December 26, 2016 Devoted Wife of the late Thomas Pokornowski Loving Mother of William and Debra (George) Thomas Gervase.
Also survived by many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and life-long friends who were family. Rita was a riveter at U.S. Steel during WWII. She and Tom were married in St. Augustine, Florida where she took a guide’s job at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park as Tom served in the Navy. They returned to their native Chicago to start their family.
Rita was blessed with wisdom, a beautiful smile, the kindest heart, and a strong will to tackle any task, whether learning ballroom dancing, mastering Polish cooking or providing nursing care for Tom during his extended illness. Her wisdom, wit and expressions of love will be dearly missed.
