On Sunday, July 10, 2016, Rita M. McGuiness, 90, entered into eternal rest peacefully at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in New Britain on January 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Laurie & Margaret (Burns) Goulet. Prior to her retirement she was employed many years at H. O. Penn Machinery Co. Rita was a woman of great faith and was a communicant at Church of St. Helena in West Hartford and an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy. She truly enjoyed helping others, volunteering at the Newington Children’s Hospital and was a Past President of the Cedar Mountain Garden Club. She was also an avid Red Sox Fan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Thomas A. McGuiness in 2001 and a daughter Diane McGuiness Carmichael. Left to honor and cherish her memory are her children Barry McGuiness and his wife Lisa of Cromwell, Brian McGuiness and his wife Dorothy of FL, and Joan Craig of Windsor, her grandchildren, Mike McGuiness with Dr. Suzanne McGarity of CO, Kim Garcia and her spouse Kate Garcia of CO, Jill Kaplan and her husband Chris of FL, Katie Meredith and her husband Dave of Coventry, Chrissy McGuiness of TX, Jim Craig and his wife Katelyn of Windsor, Mike Craig and his wife Megan of CO, and 3 great grandchildren. Rita’s family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to all of her friends at Maple View Manor.
