Rita M. McGlauchlen, 75, of rural Arenzville, IL died Friday, February 6, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
She was born December 16, 1939 in Harrisburg, IL, the daughter of Harvey and Mary Elizabeth Hogan Smith. She married Gene McGlauchlen on March 6, 1965 in Springfield and she later renewed their vows in the church on March 3, 1994. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2008.
She is survived by a daughter, Marlena Sandahl Ayling (companion, Joe Roland) of Concord and three grandchildren, Jonny Ayling, Arlin Schartz, and Gavin Schartz, all of Concord. She was preceded in death by her parents; an uncle, Paul Hogan; and an aunt, Annabelle Darr.
A graduate of Routt High School, Rita worked in Dr. Kozma’s medical office and later with her husband, owned and operated Poodles and Pals Pet Grooming and Spatz Ice Cream store. After moving to the Arenzville area, she was employed at Kent’s IGA in Beardstown. She was a member of Our Saviour Parish and the St. Alexis Altar & Rosary Society.
An accomplished artist, Rita produced both commissioned artwork and pieces for her own enjoyment. She enjoyed Bible studies and time spent with her grandchildren and her treasured pets, Holly and Carson.
