Born in  Helena, Montana.  The last of nine children of Dominic & Louisa Schiettecatte, who migrated from Belgium to Montana, Canada, & settled in California.  Madeline grew up on the Bixby, and Irvine Ranch’s, which her family farmed and land leased from Mr. Bixby and Mr. Irvine.  At this time her 7 older brothers changed their surname from Schiettecatte to Scott.  Madeline married Gleen Whittle Lyman on 11/29/1941, and had three daughters.  During World War II while her husband was gone for 3 years in the European Campaign, Madeline joined the work force in order to help our over sea’s soldiers.  After the war was over, her and her husband started thwir own business by the name of “Lyman Lanscaping”.  After living in the Long Beach and Los Angeles areas the Lyman family moved to the city of Orange, California, where they lived for 48 years.  With her passing another era has slipped away into history.  She witnessed the decades of change from small community farmlands, to urban development.  She was loved and will be missed by her family and friends.  Madeline was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Lyman in 1994, and by all of her eight siblings.  She is survived by  her daughters, Juanita (Jerry) Finnicum; Deanna (Robert) Van Hoy; Donna (William) Linke.  Four grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Beu; Jeffrey (Cori) Van Hoy; Julie Finnicum;  Amiee (Edward) Howard, and seven great-grandchildren.
