He is survived by his wife Lynn, nephews Robby and Tyler Jensen, sister, Phyllis (Frank) Koskosky of Brooksville, FL and his brother David Olguin (Mara) of Fairfax, VA. He is also survived by best friends, Jeff, Cat, Harry (aka Harry P and the MGBT Growlers), Russell, his special neighbors Andrew, Marcy, Matt, Sophie, Sylas, and Jace. He became a “Devil Dog” in the United States Marine Corps in August of 1969. Ricke retired in November 1998, as a Captain. His call sign was “Snake.” I am sure there are more stories out there somewhere. I do know of one or two.
Rick worked at Hughes Aircraft Company 1979 to June 1990 in the Missile Systems and Electro-Optical and Data Systems Groups and was still in the United States Marine Corps Active Reserve Component. Rick worked full-time and went to school in which he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics, Magna cum Laude in 1986 from California State Polytechnic University and earned his Master of Science in Physics in 1989 from the University of California.
Rick had an Avionics specialty career that spanned over 20 years. He served as an Avionics Officer in all tactical echelons of command including Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Aircraft Group, Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack and Helicopter Lift and Attack Squadrons. Some of the units were MAG-42, MAG-41, MALS-46, MAG-46, VMFA-242, MAG-11, MALS-16 and MAG-16, VMFA-134 “Smoke” and VMGR-152.
