Richard Allen Powell, the son of Charles J. and Mary Ann (Umthun) Powell was born September 19, 1955 in Clarion, Iowa. He was born and raised in the area of his birth, attending Sacred Heart School and graduating from Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1974.
In October of 1974, Rick enlisted into the United States Navy. He was an electrician aboard many ships, including the USS New Orleans and the USS Enterprise. He traveled the globe, crossing the Equator many times, and physically saw the “Southern Cross”.
Rick was an avid golfer, and loved golfing with his mom at the Eagle Grove Golf Course, and among other great courses. In 1991, Rick married Michelle Kosek. They together built “Powell Communications” in Chanhassen, MN. The couple later divorced.
Rick passed away Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Paula Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, Iowa at the age of 66 years.
He is survived by his brother Joe, sister Ann, sisters-in law Marcy Powell and Dawn Powell, nephews Jarrod, Michael, Andrew and Jared Powell, and Louis Shriver, niece Katie Powell, and ‘bonus’ nieces and nephew, Clint, Katrina and Lindsey Shriver, and their families and long-time friend, Becky Hanus.
