Richard “Dick” Dale Whisman, 74, of Sierra Vista, AZ, passed away on April 8th, 2015 at the University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ.

Dick was born May 2nd, 1940 in Franklin, OH to Donley and Minnie Whisman.  He was the seventh of eight children.  He married Mary Joe Schrader in February 1968. She had two children from a previous marriage, John and Theresa. Dick and Mary Joe had one child, Catherine Michelle Whisman. They later divorced and Dick re-married Kaye Wyler in May 1977.  Kaye had one child, Karen Marie Loper (Draper).

Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965 and became a commissioned officer in 1969, retiring as a Major in 1985.  He worked at Sperry Univac for short time and then went to work for the Federal Government, retiring in 1998.

Dick loved researching his family history and had compiled “The Whisman Family History” book as well as a book about the history of Benjamin, UT. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering with computers, and playing golf. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren with all his heart and was the happiest when he was able to spend time with them. Dick was extremely proud of his grandson, Tyler, who was sworn in and shipped off to Air Force basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX, the day before his passing. He spent the last two days of his life with Tyler and the family and he never looked more proud. He was a hard worker, loved to tell stories to whoever would listen, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He was a generous and kind man and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dick had a very special relationship with his nephew Brian Whisman and his wife Debbie, and his niece, Tyra Robinson.

He is survived by his loving wife Kaye, of Sierra Vista, AZ, one daughter, Michelle Whisman, her daughters, Savannah Cunningham and Cheyenne Peck, all of Salt Lake City, UT, one step-daughter, Karen Loper, her sons, Tyler and Jared Loper of Sierra Vista, AZ, and her daughter, Brieana Schnaithman (Jeremy), their children, Caden, Caleb, and Braylee, all of Clarksville, TN.  He is also survived by three brothers, Paul Whisman (Maudie) of West Carollton, OH, Frank Whisman (Loretta) of New Carlisle, OH, Ronald “Ronnie” Whisman (Pat) of Enon, OH, and one sister, Lillian “Toot” Whisman along with many nieces and nephews.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John and Eugene Whisman, and sister, Shirley Howell.
