He passed away at 1:45 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at Woodbridge Health Campus. The son of Samuel Clarence Cassidy and Elsie (Slusser) Cassidy, he was born. Oct. 22, 1916, in Logansport.
On Nov. 25, 1938, he married Norma Pearl Laymon, who preceded him in death Oct. 19, 1987.
A 1934 graduate of Logansport High School, Mr. Cassidy spent 16 years as a conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1948, he opened Sycamore Drive-in in Logansport and owned it until his retirement in 1980.

Other former memberships include: Dykeman Golf Club, Indiana Senior Golf Association, Logansport County Club and Logansport Rotary Club, where he was past president.
He served on the boards of Logansport Community School Corp., where he was past president, Logansport/Cass County Family Y, where he was past president, and Logansport-Cass County Public Library.
Mr. Cassidy was an avid golfer, having played for over 80 years, when he caddied at the former Logansport County Club at age 10. He last played golf at age 90 with his daughter in 2006. He won many tournaments and enjoyed playing courses in Indiana, Michigan and Florida with friends and with his wife, who was also a champion golfer.
Mr. Cassidy was also an avid bridge player and won many tournaments in Indiana and Florida. He especially enjoyed duplicate bridge.
Mr. Cassidy loved his hometown and firmly believed in giving back to his life-long community and its youth. He appreciated the support the community gave him in business as the Sycamore Drive-in became, and continues to be, an “icon” of Logansport.
Surviving are his daughter, Carol Ann (Mike) Link, Attica; sisters, Mary Cooper and JoAnn Ross, both of Logansport; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Cassidy, Logansport; grandchildren, Brendon Cassidy, Venice, Calif., Michael (Elizabeth) Cassidy, Warrensburg, Mo.
Preceding him in death were his son, Richard W. Cassidy Jr.; sister, Betty Waite; sisters-in-law, Margaret Gibson and Bernice Burkhart; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Laymon, Kenneth Waite, Robert Cooper and Charles Ross.
