Waterbury- Mr. Richard T. “Dick” “Squeaks” Lyons passed away peacefully at Wolcott View Manor on Tuesday, January 12.
Mr. Lyons was born in the city of Waterbury on August 18, 1945 to the late Helen (Murphy) and Thomas Lyons. He graduated from Sprague School and Crosby High School. He had served in the United States Marine Corp and served a tour of duty in Vietnam.
He had been employed by the City of Waterbury Parks and Recreation Dept. and spent time as a greens keeper at the both East Mountain and Western Hills Golf Courses. After his retirement he had worked part time as a bartender at the Community Restaurant (The Cave) until December of 2009. He loved to play golf, read, watch UCONN basketball – both the men and women and his Yankees.
He is survived by two sisters, Sister Marylou Lyons of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Norwalk and Susan Gilmore and her husband, James; one brother, Barry Lyons; six nephews, Michael Gilmore, James Gilmore, Brian Gilmore, Steven Gilmore, Robert Gilmore and Sean Lyons and several great nieces and nephews, of whom he thought the world.
He was a good friend to all who knew him, and should you ask, “what can I do?” say a prayer, read a book or “buy a round” for him. He’d like that.
