Richard Stanley Karwatka, 69, of Merrillville, IN passed away on February 23, 2021.
Rich was born on March 20, 1951 on the South Side of Chicago, IL. He was the youngest of six children to Stanley and Sophie Karwatka.
Rich attended Mendel Catholic High School on a football scholarship then continued his education at Tri State University (now known as Trine University) where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology. He was a member of the TKE Fraternity and best known to those life-long friends as “Chicago”.
Rich made a career as a Maintenance Engineer Consultant which afforded him many years of travel, beautiful destinations, and lots of stories to share.
Scuba diving, sailing, wood-working, racquetball; cars, especially his 1964 Corvette Stingray; and the Chicago Bears were some of Rich’s passions throughout his life.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Sophie Karwatka; his wife, Anne Marie Karwatka; sister, Joan Pierce; and brother, Edmund Karwatka.
Survivors cherishing his memory include his children, Amie (James) Richards and Douglas (Jessica) Karwatka; grandchildren, Aaron and Shelby Richards, Madelyn, Sophia, Lukas, and Leo Karwatka; former wife, Rox Anne Natale; sisters, Arlene Gawrys, Judith Mitchell, and Monica Drzewiecki; numerous nieces and nephews, their families; and many friends.
