Rich Schmukler, loving father, supporter to many, lifelong adventurer and storyteller, died Sunday morning surrounded by family and comforted by the tide of his beloved Long Island Sound. Preceded in death by his parents, Selig and Frances Schmukler, Rich is survived by his two loving daughters, Dawn Whitaker of Pasadena, CA and Lara Strickland of Austin, TX, four grandchildren Kira and Tristan Whitaker and Ella and Miles Strickland, his loving partner, Lily Forbush of Hamden, CT, and sister Carole Marks of Barnegat Light, NJ. An active member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Sierra Club, Singles Under Sail and the Unitarian Society of New Haven, Rich’s zeal for exploring new things — both on the beaten trail and off — was strong to the end. Rich loved sailing and harbored a deep love of nature.
